NightVisions

It’s right there in our mission statement! Yes, we want to “provide opportunities for members of the Central Oregon Community to be entertained and enriched by high quality theatrical productions…” but here’s the fun part…”and to participate meaningfully in the creation and support of these productions.”  That’s right! The real fun is not just coming to see one of our shows but actually becoming involved in the creation of the show! Aside from our amazing staff of 3 employees, CTC is one hundred percent run by volunteers. We couldn’t do it without them (and hopefully you)!

Some of our volunteers are easy to spot, in the spotlight in fact, the actors on the stage.  Open auditions are held prior to each show, listed in our season brochure and detailed in our newsletters and on this website. Yes, there are some familiar faces in most shows but there are always roles for actors new to the area, ones who “haven’t acted since high school” or those who’ve always wanted to give it a try.”

There’s much labor that goes in to bringing a show to fruition.  You may only see (or hear) the fruits of these labors, not the labor itself. A qualified director and assistant director work tirelessly to bring all of the elements of the show to life. For every show, designers create the sets, lighting and sound.  Then, of course, builders and painters carry out these designs.  Ever wanted to build a hunting lodge or make a marble staircase out of plywood? We’d love to show you how.

Every show also needs the backstage crew. You know, those people wearing black so you won’t see them: stage manager, running crew, light and soundboard operator!

Still not interested? Do you like to shop? Yes, our costumers and property volunteers sew and make some of the costumes and props but they also spend some time cruising the local thrift shops or the internet looking for a “1930’s vintage dart board” or “8 yards of mint green chiffon in size 12.”

Think you are too old or too young to volunteer? Not so! We have volunteers well into their 80’s as well as some that have recently started first grade.

These production volunteers receive 2 complimentary tickets to the shows they work on, are welcome to attend preview night for each show that season and the next free of charge, and are invited to the annual volunteer and member picnic.

If you don’t want to start with a big commitment, how about just one evening as a front of the house volunteer? Each performance requires a house manager, usher, and concessions operator (OLCC permit required for concessions).  These folks are able to see the show free of charge, are welcome to attend preview night for each show that season and next free of charge and are also invited to the annual volunteer and member picnic.

We are committed to delighting our audience with 6 main stage productions this year.  But we are even more committed to giving you the opportunity to be involved, in whatever way suits you most, in creating a magical theatrical performance.  The joy really occurs on this side of the lights!
